It is predicted that the rise in temperature overall of the planet is destined to produce some rather extreme global–warming–effects.
Shrinkage of the Antarctic Ice-Shelves has raised the sea level. High sea levels can cause severe flooding and soil erosion to coastal towns and villages. Islands can become submerged.

Environmental issues that exist include pollution of rivers from agricultural runoff and industrial uses, acid rain in areas where coal is used as a source of energy, soil erosion in overpopulated areas and desertification in areas where grasslands are being lost due to over-grazing of livestock.
